Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) established on 30th September 1961 associates 30 highly-developed and democratic countries, and its objective is to support activities aimed at achieving the highest possible level of economic development and the inhabitants’ standard of living.
The employees of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection participate in OECD works within the competence of the OCCP President, i.e. in the Competition Committee and the Committee on Consumer Policy as well as their subordinate working groups.
Competition
The OECD Competition Committee is the most important international forum in the field of competition law and policy. It associates the heads of competition authorities of member states from all over the world. It is the basic source of competition policy analysis and an advisory body for governments. It is responsible for promoting market reforms, including activities aimed at counteracting practices that restrict competition.
During the meetings the OCCP representatives actively participate in creating a list of sectors in which competition law violation is most common. Together with experts from other countries, they exchange experience on the antimonopoly proceedings and seek the best solutions aiming at improving the condition of competition on national markets. They also inform the Committee on issues relating to the implementation of competition policy in Poland as well as discuss current changes in the law.
The Committee's actions are supported by experts from other European and international institutions (the European Commission, UNCTAD), as well as by representatives of entrepreneurs and consumers.
Consumer Protection
The OECD Committee on Consumer Policy was established in 1969. It associates the representatives of central consumer protection policy authorities of the member states and experts from social organizations as well as entrepreneurs. The delegates meet twice a year in the OECD headquarters, and gather also during meetings with other public bodies established ad hoc. The Committee remains one of the main forums of international scope, regularly dealing with consumer policy.
The works of the Committee focus on the promotion of co-operation among the OECD member states and the implementation of legal recommendations in consumer protection. It also co-operates with third countries, consumer organizations, entrepreneurs and academics carrying out intense consultations in order to create efficient mechanisms for increasing the effectiveness of global economy and consumer protection.
